Auction and valuation guidelines

It is important to us that you feel safe when you view our sales, collect lots and deliver goods to sale.

Viewing: Our auctions are available for open viewing the day prior to the auction and on the morning of the auction until it begins at 11am.

Auctions: Our auctions are open to room bidders and to online bidding via thesaleroom.com (please click the large green button at the top of our 'current auction catalogue' page to access the saleroom.  We are more than happy to accept absentee or phone bids (phone bids are restricted to items with a lower estimate of £100).  Auction catalogues will be available on our website and on thesaleroom.com for one full week to allow you to view lots at your leisure.  If you register to bid on thesaleroom via the green button on our catalogue page you will benefit from a reduced online fee.

Collecting items bought at auction:  We want to make this as easy and as safe as possible.   As we are still running a busy sale calendar, we would require that all goods are collected by the Wednesday following each sale, items can also be collected during the auction.  For larger goods, we can recommend carriers who can offer delivery for a reasonable charge.  For buyers who are further afield, we recommend Mailboxes Edinburgh (0131 652 3672) or Pack and send ((0131 201 2244).  We have found an excellent courier who does bi-weekly trips to Scotland and can deliver anywhere between Edinburgh and the south coast of England, including London.  Please contact us if you would like details.

Payment:  our payment terms are - cash, cheque or bank transfer, bank details are printed on your post sale emailed invoice

Dropping off goods for sale:  please be assured that we are still available to receive goods for sale and to give valuations.

Valuations:  There are several options for valuations/appraisal of objects for possible sale.  Our valuers are able to visit you in your own home observing all social distancing guidelines.  You may prefer to email images to us at Enable JavaScript to view protected content., a simple and quick way to receive a pre sale valuation.  Equally you may prefer a virtual valuation where our valuer can appraise goods in your home via your iphone or computer with eg. facetime.  Please contact the office (0131 553 7000) to arrange an appointment.
